- Consolidated and secure access to patient data for all caregivers.
- Reduced administrative time, freeing up time for direct care.
- Implementation of a shared care record at the regional level.
In the UK psychiatric sector, fragmented information systems complicated access to patient data and slowed down clinical decision-making. Two major organizations, Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust and Hertfordshire Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust, chose Enovacom as their interoperability partner to address these challenges.
Through Enovacom’s solutions, these two foundations are transforming care coordination, patient safety and staff efficiency by creating an environment where information flows freely and securely, from the most isolated residents to referring specialists.
The customer's challenge
Challenges faced by both NHS Foundation Trusts:
- A multitude of systems that did not talk to each other, resulting in the need for double data entry, delays and risks of error.
- Difficulty centralizing and standardizing data from both recent and older systems.
- Major obstacles to creating a shared patient record, which hindered true regional coordination of mental health care.
Why these clients chose Enovacom?
- Industry expertise: As a specialist in healthcare interoperability, Enovacom understands the constraints of psychiatric and complex care facilities.
- Proactive adoption of international standards (FHIR): Enables quick and sustainable integration, even with legacy information systems.
- Ease of use and rapid deployment: Seamless integration into the NHS ecosystem, flows are structured without overloading internal IT.
- Scalable solutions: Option to integrate new use cases: Full automation, decision-making intelligence, true regional patient record strategy.
Our approach
Enovacom deployed two complementary pillars of its interoperability suite:
For Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust (OHFT)
- Enovacom Integration Engine automated integration between the mental health and pharmacy information systems (IS), eliminating double data entry.
- The True Colors tool compiles patient self-assessment questionnaires. The scores are automatically transferred to the clinical record, feeding into patient follow-up and decision-making.
- All relevant data is instantly integrated into business systems and management tools, and a predictive model is in development to further personalize care pathways.
For Hertfordshire Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust (HPFT)
- Enovacom Data Repository, which is based on the FHIR standard, was used to compile all the information from various clinical information systems, including older ones, in a single data repository.
- The “My Care Record” shared patient record allows any authorized healthcare professional to quickly access the entire HPFT patient record via secure query, promoting continuity of care across eastern England.
- Access to the data follows an advanced security protocol (HTTPS + token), and each organization can view information that is standardized, reliable and highly granular.
Key results
- For psychiatric caregivers:
- No more double data entry thanks to automated transfers.
- Easier follow-up with integration of self-assessment scores into the patient record.
- Greater consistency and completeness of medical data.
- For the health system:
- Transition to a shared regional patient record system that is interoperable and at the cutting edge of international standards (FHIR).
- Significantly reduced administrative time: 408 hours saved annually on pharmacy processes alone at one trust.
- Fewer errors, better clinical decisions, cost savings (over £9,000/year saved in double data entry costs at OHFT).
- For patients:
- Single record, traceability and continuous coordination of patient mental and physical care, even when changing facilities or care teams.
- Greater security, real-time identification of duplicates or data entry errors.
Conclusion
- Enovacom is driving the digital transformation of British psychiatric centers. Thanks to its solutions, NHS Foundation Trusts such as OHFT and HPFT have been able to achieve a new level of fluidity, safety and efficiency of care, while at the same time making regional shared patient records possible.
- Enovacom remains committed to working alongside NHS stakeholders to advance interoperability, data protection and personalized care for all pathologies, from the most complex to the most common.
